Kanikular Craster de Vert
Our journey began in 1991 with my first German Shepherd — a dog that sparked a lifelong passion for the breed and the sport of IGP. Originally based in Denmark, I migrated to Australia in 2000 and continued my commitment to the working German Shepherd. As a co-founder of Sydney Dogsport Club Inc., I’ve remained actively involved in IGP and its community ever since.
Kennel Kanikular was established in 2014, built on a dream to bring strong European working lines to Australia. From the outset, our vision has been clear: to breed with purpose and to prioritise quality over quantity. We breed selectively and only when we are seeking the next generation for our own kennel. We do not chase trends, nor do we support unstable temperaments or inappropriate aggression. Our aim is to uphold the legacy of the German Shepherd as a true working breed — with honesty, discipline, and respect for its origin.

Our Dogs
Get to know
If you're seeking a dog for sport, service, or a steadfast companion, we welcome you to reach out and learn more about our breeding program - and the values that shape it.
Kanikular puppies are raised in our home, not kennels — surrounded by daily household life, exposed to children, and handled with care. Each puppy undertakes early socialisation and age-appropriate exposure to new environments, sounds, and people help prepare them for a confident and balanced start in life.
Our breeding philosophy centers on producing puppies from dogs proven to be healthy, mentally balanced, and equipped with strong drives and a clear-headed approach to their work. Whether under pressure or at rest, our dogs are selected for their trainability, resilience, and ability to transition seamlessly between intensity and calm.
At Kanikular, our commitment to breeding sound, versatile working dogs begins with the quality of the dogs we select for our program. We maintain a limited number of exceptional dogs, each chosen for their health, structure, temperament, and working ability to ensure we contribute meaningfully to the working dog community and to families seeking purpose-bred companions.
Stud services are available for approved females, unless otherwise stated.

Kanikular German Shepherds
Kanikular puppies are raised in our home, not kennels — surrounded by daily household life, exposed to children, and handled with care. Each puppy undertakes early socialisation and age-appropriate exposure to new environments, sounds, and people help prepare them for a confident and balanced start in life.
We welcome genuine expressions of interest from those seeking a working-line German Shepherd puppy bred with purpose and from parents with proven sound temperament, strong working potential, and a clear head. Our dogs are placed with working homes, experienced handlers, or dedicated families who value the importance of structure, training, and meaningful engagement.
We invite you to reach out by email or sign up on our waiting list by filling out our Kanikular Puppy Buyer Questionnaire form. Let us know a little about you, goals, and what you're looking for in a dog. We reserve the right to select the most suitable homes for our puppies, based on the best interest of the dog. We take placement seriously - and so should you.

We Train, We Trial, We live It
More than breeders - we are active working dog handlers
Trialed. Tested. Trusted
At Kanikular, we’re not just breeders—we are active competitors in IGP, with a deep commitment to preserving the working heritage of the German Shepherd Dog. Our dogs are trained, trialed, and titled not for prestige, but because we believe that a well-balanced working dog must have a clear purpose and outlet for its drives.
Our participation in IGP isn’t a side note - it’s central to our philosophy. We train and compete to challenge ourselves, to develop the character and capability of our dogs, and most importantly, to contribute to their overall health, happiness, and well-being. Every dog we own is part of our daily lives, and we believe that only by living and working with our dogs can we breed for the qualities that truly matter: nerve strength, clarity, power, and resilience.
